One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to try and eat a nutritious breakfast everyday. So far this goal is going well, and I must say, I owe it all to breakfast bowls. The main reason I am able to stick to my goal of eating a nutritious breakfast each morning is because of them. Breakfast bowls are great because they are fast and easy to make, and you can change them depending on what you feel like eating that day. Best of all? They are absolutely delicious! I find that starting my day with a breakfast bowl gives me a lot of energy. This morning I decided to make a breakfast bowl from plain yogurt, blueberries, almonds, coconut, and honey. Are you interested in making a yummy yet nutritious breakfast bowl today? If so, follow along!
Step 1: Pick a base
- Yogurt (I like to use greek yogurt or yogurt with added probiotics)
- Nicecream (blended up frozen bananas + milk)
- Frozen Fruit Smoothie (made from any frozen fruits + milk)
- Hint: you can even add green veggies like spinach or kale into your smoothie for additional health benefits
Step 2: Choose your fruity toppings (the choices are endless!)
- Apples
- Bananas
- Berries
- Mango
- Kiwi
- Pineapple
Step 3: Choose your additional toppings
- Oats
- Muesli/Granola
- Nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, hazelnuts, peanuts)
- Shredded Coconut
- Chia Seeds
- Hemp Hearts
- Raw Cacao Nibs
- Dried Fruits
Step 4: Choose your sweetener/spice
- Honey
- Cinnamon
- Nut butters (peanut, hazelnut, and almond)
- Hint: adding a spoon or two of nut butter is a great way to pack some protein into your breakfast and help kick start your day
Step 5: Get creative!
My favourite part about making these breakfast bowls is that you can decorate them and enjoy a beautiful breakfast bowl every morning. Who doesn’t enjoy a visually pleasing meal? Also, they make for a great Instagram post! These breakfast bowls are also amazing because the possibilities are endless, and there are so many different variations that you can try and never get tired of them! Today I decided to wash a few small flowers and place them in my breakfast bowl to give it a little bit of added colour and brighten up my breakfast. I love being mindful of the little beautiful things in life, and small flowers such as these are the kinds of things that make me happy. So if you have something that makes you happy, whether it is a beautifully decorated bowl, or a special spoon, use it every day to remind you of something positive. This will help you start your day on a great note.
Step 6: Enjoy!
I hope this blog post gave you some good ideas on what you can add to your breakfast bowl the next time you make one. Let me know in the comments below if there are any tips, tricks, or toppings that you like to add in yours. I would love to hear your suggestions. Happy Sunday!
All the best,
– Ema
